Agency News – Baptist Mission Australia: Future Directions for a Changing World

November 28, 2024

Our world is changing

  • Our global population is becoming increasingly urban, with 56% of the world’s population currently living in urban centres, with this estimated to rise to nearly 70% by 20501.
  • Our Australian neighbourhoods and churches are increasingly intercultural with 28% per cent of the population being born overseas in 2021, compared to 15% in 19212.
  • And there is a growing negative impact of climate change across the world, particularly among those already experiencing disadvantage.

As the world changes, we can see, the global church and the Australian church also changing. So, how should all this change impact the way we participate in God’s mission, locally and globally?

Baptist Mission Australia is on a journey of discerning the Future Directions of our ministry, and this is a key question that we, as a small western mission agency, have been asking. Organisational change should never be for change’s sake. The goal is always that more people may know the love and hope of Jesus!

Victorian Baptists have, and continue to be, a vital part of our mission communities and we are looking forward to sharing more about our Future Directions and how we are responding to the Spirit’s leading in the midst of our changing world over the coming year.
