Marriage Celebrant

Baptist pastoral leaders may be eligible to be licensed as Marriage Celebrants.

In this role pastors are required to fulfil both pastoral and legislative requirements, so a period of preparation is required. The BUV will only recommend pastors who have:

  • Completed their Accreditation
  • Attended a Marriage Celebrant Training Day every five years
  • Completed Prepare/Enrich pre marriage preparation or an equivalent pre marriage course
  • Ensure the need for a license is proven as outlined in the BUV Marriage Celebrant Policy
Pastors should not accept invitations to officiate at weddings until they have a Marriage Celebrant License.

If you’re interested in registering as a marriage celebrant under the BUV, please email pastoral.support@buv.com.au

The purpose of Marriage Celebrant Training is to enable you to be well prepared to offer effective pastoral care and marriage preparation, lead meaningful wedding services and provide ethical and legally competent ministry as a BUV Marriage Celebrant. This training day is for new celebrants and experienced celebrants who requires a five year refresher as part of the accreditation requirement.

Please note: When you are no longer in a current Baptist ministry, you will be required to relinquish your Marriage License.
